We are proud to announce Kyle Schmidt, Catcher for the MN Twins Organization, will be the Catching Coordinator at Action’s Winter Camp! Schmidt played with Action Baseball Club from 2012 to 2015. Schmidt attended Smithville High School where he played for their baseball team all four years. At Smithville, Schmidt was named District 26-AAA Newcomer of the year (Freshman) in 2012. In 2013, he was named All County and District 26-AAA All Academic as well as assigned to the District 26-AAA First-Team. In 2014, Schmidt was named to the All-Tournament selection Weimar HS Tournament and Stanley Krist HS Tournament. He was also awarded the All-Area and District 26-AAA Defensive MVP, and named in the THSBCA Third-Team All-State.
From there, Schmidt went on to play at the University of Richmond as catcher. In his freshman year, Schmidt played in 26 games, including 19 starts, and hit his first collegiate home run. During his sophomore year, Schmidt played in 38 games with 29 starts. As a junior, Schmidt was named to the Johnny Bench Award Watch List and played in 42 games with 37 starts. During Schmidt’s senior year, he was again named to the Johnny Bench Award Watch List as well as Second Team All-Atlantic 10 Catcher, A-10 Player of the Week (April 22) and A-10 Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
In 2019 Schmidt was Drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 33rd round of the 2019 MLB Draft where he is still playing.
